Strong early support propels Hardesty to qualify first
for Portland’s small donor program

Portland, OR - Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty is proud to be the first candidate to qualify for the City of Portland’s Open and Accountable Elections (OAE) program this election cycle, empowering more Portlanders and reducing the influence of money in politics. Over 250 Portland donors contributed at least $5 in support of Hardesty’s re-election campaign.

“After being outspent in 2018, I was proud when Portland joined 32 other cities, counties, and states across our country in establishing a proven program for limiting the corrupting influence of mega donors. I am honored to have the early and strong support of small donors in a campaign where $5 matters. Our democracy is stronger when we reject the control of wealthy special interests and center everyday Portlanders and working families in our political process.” - Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty

The matching program provides participating candidates with a 6-to-1 match on the first $5 to $50 they receive from Portland residents age 18 and over. In addition, candidates agree to accept no PAC money and no more than $250 from an individual. Commissioner Hardesty is also the first to qualify as a candidate by petition, a requirement to participate in the Open & Accountable Elections program, with more than the required 100 signatures verified by City Auditor.

We are honored to have the support of small donors including people who are entrepreneurs, first responders, software engineers, nurses, religious leaders, public sector workers, artists, construction workers, contractors, teachers, realtors, social workers, engineers, retired persons, students, and more.
